Data Management Librarian at the University of Florida Libraries

The University of Florida's George A. Smathers Libraries seek an innovative and collaborative candidate to apply for its Data Management Librarian position in the Academic Research Consulting and Services department (ARCS) at the Health Science Center Libraries. The ARCS department is central to library-based, discipline-agnostic research support for the University of Florida community. The Data Management Librarian will provide information consultation services in a variety of modes, design and teach workshops to promote best practices in data management and related topics, perform course-integrated instruction, and is responsible for special projects as assigned, such as new service development and evaluation.

The ARCS team is strategically expanding to meet campus needs, with a new emphasis on supporting artificial intelligence through deep engagement in education, research, equity, and outreach. ARCS also provides expertise in bioinformatics analysis, digital humanities, geographic and spatial analysis, informatics, rigor and reproducibility, systematic reviews, and related areas (http://arcs.uflib.ufl.edu/stories). The ARCS department works alongside ARCS affiliates in scholarly communication, publishing, and subject-specific liaison librarians to support researchers throughout the research life cycle via consultation services, training opportunities within and outside the curriculum, and outreach strategies to constituencies campus-wide.

The Data Management Librarian is a year-round (12-month), tenure-track faculty position. ARCS faculty are key partners in advancing the research enterprise, leading and supporting initiatives to grow infrastructure and services that enhance UF's diverse research portfolio, which includes over $1 billion annually in research expenditures.

The search will remain open until July 18, 2023, and applications will be reviewed as received. For a full description of the position and instructions on how to apply, please refer to the George A. Smathers Libraries faculty recruitment webpage at https://hr.uflib.ufl.edu/prospective-employees/current-openings/vacant-faculty-positions/.

The University of Florida is an equal opportunity employer and is strongly committed to the diversity of our faculty and staff. Applicants from a broad spectrum of people, including members of ethnic minorities and disabled persons, are especially encouraged to apply.

Save the Date - Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL) Symposium - November 16, 2023 (virtual)

Save the date for the Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL) Symposium, a free virtual event with a focus on Institutional Repository (IR) management, curation, and promotion in a health sciences environment. The third annual symposium will take place virtually on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

MIRL Symposium is a platform-neutral conference. Our goal is to gather together IR practitioners and those with an interest in IRs at hospitals, academic medical centers, and other health settings for discussions and sharing of case studies and best practices for digital archiving of institutional content.

The conference will be a mix of presentation types. Potential topics will vary: challenges and successes in innovation, staffing, and workflows; creative use cases and collections; migration of repositories; use of technologies (from APIs to AI); policies to ensure diversity and privacy; strategies for the continued promotion of open access health sciences content.

Please share with anyone who may be interested. A call for papers and presenters will be coming later this summer. There is no cost for participating, but registration will be required. Registration information and a program agenda will be announced later.

Questions can be directed to Steven Moore, Librarian at Sladen Library, Henry Ford Health.
